Ahh Torben, what a wonderful review. This is one of my favourite authors. I talked about her with Canadian author Shyam Selvadurai, one of my instructors. There was a debate going on about her writing short stories or a novel with this book. He said, "it doesn't matter what they are. Alice Munro can write whatever she wants." And that's it in a nutshell. Whatever she's writing, I'm reading. You are bang on about naming characters and the impact of that process in embedding a character into a story. Del Jordan is the perfect name in this instance. I also liked your Nike shoe photo. That was funny. By the by, I have a ton of Munro in my bookshelves. When you and Marijke come out to visit my own small town, you are welcome to borrow as many as you like.

"Lives of Girls and Women" was one of those books that graced my bookshelf for decades. I read voraciously in my youth and this novel was startling and impactful. I loved it and wanted to re-read it and loan it to anyone who showed interest. At some point in my life it became necessary to divest of most of my book collection and I consoled myself that it would still be available in the library and my children would be able to access it there, if they were so inclined.

I am so happy that you have found it and appreciated it. I am also grateful for your foray into criticism. I look forward to learning about books I haven't read and gaining a new perspective on ones that I have. A picture of a glossy black pug and a book in a sun flooded corner is hard to beat as compelling images go. (The shoes are also hilarious.)
